Gabriel invented the first direct acting shock absorber for automobiles in 1907, after founder Claud H. Foster created a multi-tone automobile horn in 1900. Since then, Gabriel established a long history of innovation, inventing the first adjustable shock absorber, the first hydraulic shock absorber, and the first air adjustable shock absorber, among other breakthroughs. Every Gabriel shock, from the least to the most expensive, features a super-finished chromed piston rod, a high-quality component that is usually only found in premium shocks. This helps to ensure the shock’s long-lasting durability. The internal piston features an O-ring to maintain a self-adjusting seal between the piston and pressure tube wall to help minimize leak paths.

Gabriel’s MaxControl monotube gas shocks feature multiple seals, a rod guide bearing system, a floating piston, and extra rod seal to prevent debris from entering the oil chamber. MaxControl shocks deliver a more sensitive response, which provides an overall smoother ride, improved handling, and better vehicle performance.
