Snow Plow Springs for Increased Support
Snow plow season is approaching, and coming fast. At this time, many of our customers and website visitors need help with the front end of their truck suspension. The main reasons for this are sag and bottoming out due to snow plow installation. While heavy duty leaf springs can be a viable solution this problem, there are other options such as front Timbren springs or a level-rite system by Firestone and Bilstein that will allow you to support your plow when it is mounted and still enjoy your factory ride when empty.
Front Timbren Springs
A front timbren kit will install with ease and progressively increase the level load support of your vehicles front end. This will allow your truck to have proper weight support when the snow plow is not mounted as well as providing a factory quality ride when the snow plow is not attached. Timbren SES kits are also warranted against defects in material and workmanship for the LIFE of the vehicle.
Front Sumo Springs
SumoSprings are the airless air bag made from special micro-cellular urethane designed to create a progressive rate spring that is designed to adjust to load and changing road conditions. With a SumoSpring you will receive up to 3,000lbs of load support for the front end of your truck making this a great option for plow vehicles. While loaded you will have a level ride, and when the plow is off your ride will be unaffected.
HD Front Coil Springs
For vehicles equipped with a plow all of the time Heavy Duty Coil Springs are a great option. You can get springs with up to a 50% increase in capacity that will provide plenty of support for that extra weight of the plow. HD Coils are also available in a leveling coil to bring the front end up to the same height as the rear of the truck. Upgrading your coils is a good option for work vehicles, but if the vehicle is unloaded the ride may be stiffer than stock.
Level-Rite Air Leveling by Firestone
Firestone level-rite kits are a new solution to an old problem. Many vehicles with difficult to work with front ends or torsion bar suspensions were near impossible to get air bags on. This meant either no support for your plow or increased tension in the torsion bars which can destroy your ride. However, Firestone teamed up with Bilstein to create an air over shock system. This kit is complete with a mono-tube Bilstein shocks and an air leveling system that is backed by a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty.
Add a Leaf Kits
An additional option for supporting the weight of a plow or winch is an add a leaf kit. An add a leaf is a single leaf spring that will be added to your current leaf stack. This option is best if the truck is used for plowing or commercial purposes all of the time. Add a leafs are not progressive so they will not adjust to your load situation the way a timbren or level-rite system is capable. However, some people prefer the use of additional leaves opposed to a helper spring.
